"Clearly this is an author who knows little girls, and knows how to navigate that common scenario where fashion clashes with function. While there are already a lot of books on the market that validate girls who don’t want to be princesses, and plenty of books that encourage princess play, this is the only book I have found that accepts and validates a child’s interest in princess play while also encouraging appropriate and practical attire for all weather. Through plain language and beautiful illustrations, young girls will learn that they can play princess and have outdoor fun, too."

Such a thoughtful, sweet book tackling the real life parent-child struggle of getting dressed! I love the balance of Nora’s princess play with outdoor play and learning what is needed for each season. The illustrations are fantastic, and the hidden kitty is such a cute touch. A great book for all the little princesses in your life!

“I really like that there is a happy medium. The moral of the story isn’t that mom is always right or that we need to abandon the things we love if they are impractical, rather that we just need to find the
right time and place for things.”

Teacher Reviews
I am a retired pre-school teacher and after reading Princesses Don't Wear THAT! I could clearly imagine reading this book out loud to a group of giggling children. I could see how much fun it would be to emphasize saying the title phrase and mimicking the parents response. Reading this book out loud will be great bed time story fun for parents or grandparents. The illustrations are detailed and demand exploration. I also love the way the text is creatively placed which will be a fun re-enforcement for early readers. Christmas is coming!!

My class absolutely loved the story!
They were all joining in the patterned text parts and even clapped when the story was finished. I highly recommend for young children and early elementary. The illustrations were beautiful and really engaged learners.

I know lots of kids who love wearing costumes like princess dresses ALL THE TIME, so I this book has great appeal. The story has a simple lesson to be learned and how to reason with kids about when to wear what. The fact that it uses the seasons for its structure is useful because seasons and nature are a part of early elementary curriculum so it can be used at school as well as at home.
